House League Information
St. Boniface Minor Hockey runs two age divisions of House League play.
- 5&6 House League
- 7&8 House League
House League teams will be formed generally within the area that the players have registered. The number of children registered is always the deciding factor and parents must be prepared to have their child play out of another Community Centre. Community Centres will try and make sure teams are formed with fairly even caliber but at this age level it is always difficult as we try and encourage kids to play with friends, school friends and the like.
5&6 House League
At the 5&6 level we are estimating 10-12 teams at approximately 10 to 12 players per team. All games are played within SBMHA with many teams entering tournaments in and around Winnipeg.
Score is not kept for the games. When a goal is scored then the scoring team is asked to back up to centre ica and the puck is given to the other team to begin skating up with it. Each team will skate one on-ice coach with the children to guide and aid everyone in their hockey experience. A buzzer will sound every 3 mins of continuous time to shift players on and off the ice.
For the first half of the 5&6 House League season the games consist of half-ice play while the second half of the season is played on full ice.
7&8 House League
At the 7&8 level we are estimating 12-15 teams at approximately 10 to 12 players per team. All games are played within SBMHA with many teams entering tournaments in and around Winnipeg.
At 7&8 House League play the transition to normal hockey begins. Scores are kept for games and referees will call offsides and icings. Players can be given penalties for inappropriate play (although a player will only serve the remaining time of his shift for the penalty). Teams will play three 12 min periods with the buzzer sounding every 2 mins of stop time to shift players on and off the ice.
At the end of the regular season teams are pooled into similar groups (A, B, C and D group) and group champions are determined.
